Hyperopia/ Long Sightedness

Hyperopia (far-sightedness) is a condition where distance, intermediate and near objects are blurry and out of focus. This is a result of a shorter eyeball or cornea that is not curved sufficiently. Consequently, the light rays entering the eye are not focused on the macula and the clear image falls behind the macula. Uncorrected hyperopia can cause difficulty with daily tasks that require good near vision such as using a smartphone or reading.

Spectacle correction is an effective way of re-focusing light onto the macula. Clear vision can be provided this way is most cases. Again, alternatives include contact lenses, laser vision correction or lens surgery.
